“[Free] and Open Source 4 Geo in the age of agentic work”
Re FOSS4G & Gen AI. AI is not capable of original thought, limited by input and existing ‘knowledge’ code. Output may be great for very specific tasks but not to resolve strategic plans for complex solutions. Engineers do a lot more than code and spatial is still special. Geographer experience is invaluable in building FOSS4G, but Gen AI can provide valuable tools for the job, ie speeding up the actual coding and testing.
Reader in Physical Geography, Queen Mary University of London
“Building partnerships between academia and industry”
The exciting geospatial work that is being done in QMUL Geography and Environmental Science, with a focus on the collection and analysis of complex 3D data to understand landscape change
The possibilities for closer collaboration between industry and academia through initiatives including guest lectures, internships and placements and collaborative research opportunities
